Animators are not your audience!

Early this morning (Yeah, my Q&A for Class 1 is at 1:00am), Ryan made an excellent point as he talked about our Stu poses. Although it really applies to any animation. Our audience is not composed of animators!  Once we start working in the industry, our audience will consist of everyday average people. Therefore, he stressed the importance of showing your work to non-animators as you progress through a project.

If our Stu pose is supposed to convey "excitement", then show it to a non-animator type, without prepping them first and ask them what they see in your pose. If they think your pose looks angry, then ask them what about it makes it look angry. There are very fine lines between emotions when it comes to body language and getting a set of fresh eyes without any preconceived notions on animation is invaluable!
